How to replace a gas cylinder

Most accidents with gas grills and other gas appliances happen because gas leaks between the gas cylinder and the regulator. See how to change the gas bottle safely and correctly.

Avoid leakage

If the regulator is not properly attached to the gas cylinder, propane gas may leak out. If the gas catches fire, the cylinder may also catch fire and explode. Press the locking ring on the regulator down firmly to prevent leakage.

Close after use

The regulator switch must be closed when the appliance is not in use. If you are going away or will not be using gas for a while, close the regulator switch and disconnect the regulator.

How to put the regulator on the gas bottle

  1. Remove any seal on the gas cylinder. Do not use a knife or anything that could damage the seal. Check that the gasket on the cylinder is intact, clean and soft.

2. Place the regulator over the gas bottle. Make sure that the switch on top of the regulator is closed so that the red flame sign is down.

3. Press the locking ring up and place the regulator down on the bottle valve.

4. Press down the locking ring with both hands until it locks with a small click. Lift the regulator to check that it is in place. Then you can open the regulator switch so that the red flame sign points upwards.
