How to maintain your gas equipment

With simple maintenance, you can prevent dangerous gas leaks.

Replace old hoses

The gas hose is "fresh" and becomes dry and brittle after a period of use. If the hose cracks, the gas leaks out and can cause an explosion. Gas hoses should be replaced every three years. Lots of sunlight and temperature fluctuations are some of the conditions that affect how long a hose lasts. Check the hose for leaks regularly so that you are always sure that the hose is intact before you start using it.

Lock the regulator in place

Make sure that the regulator is correctly fitted and locked onto the gas cylinder before opening the valve. Here's how to replace and install the gas bottle for the grill. The regulator should be replaced after five years.

Check the hose for leaks:

  • Bend the hose and look for cracks.

  • Spray or brush soapy water on the hose and connections. If it bubbles, there is a leak.

  • Use your nose - gas has an added odor that allows you to detect leaks. If you smell gas, turn off the regulator and remove the gas bottle from the grill.
