Error on Regulator?

Read this first!

When a regulator doesn't open the gas on all cylinders, it's a sign that it's not doing its job.

I recommend that you get a new regulator and the problem is solved.

Why is gas not coming?

We experience that many people have problems with gas supply when connecting the regulator on a newly replaced bottle, especially on new Weber grills, and regulators with a twist knob on the side. So the question is, is this due to the valve on the bottle or the regulator? It is Cavagna Group / SRG that originally made this connection. All valves on bottles come from these manufacturers, but regulators are copied and made by many. The problem is that when you turn over the valve, there is a small pin that comes down and presses down a valve pin that sits in the valve on the bottle, and it does not come down enough, sometimes it goes sometimes not. The regulator does not press the valve down enough and the fault is in the regulator. According to the valve manufacturer's standard, the valve pin should be pressed down min. 1.5 mm down, max 5 mm. Those who experience this must contact the supplier of the regulator.

We have also noticed that many people get this problem when they change cylinders. Due to the changed revision time, we replace many old cylinders with new ones or new valves on cylinders that have undergone 10 years of periodic inspection. On old cylinders/valves, the rubber seal in the valve seat will be somewhat compressed, which means that the valve spigot in the valve comes up somewhat more and it takes less pressure for it to open for gas, so therefore you may experience that no gas comes when you replace the cylinder, but still the error is the regulator that does not press enough into the valve spigot.

Regulator that is hard to get onTo protect against possible leakage, the manufacturer has chosen a somewhat harder and more durable rubber compound on the valves. In some cases it cannot be clicked on directly, do the following: lubricate the valve rubber ring with soap, take the regulator in between both hands, pull the locking ring up with your fingertips, put on the regulator and keep a good downward pressure while pushing the locking ring down with your fingers. If this is not possible, the fault is due to the regulator not being manufactured in accordance with the tolerance measurements from the valve manufacturer, often copies from China. All our valves come from Cavagna/Srg Group which is the original manufacturer of this coupling.

This will apply to all types of controllers, both with twist knob and lever on top to switch over:

Another safety detail is the regulator's locking ring (the one that is pushed down to lock the regulator in place). At elevated temperatures, this locking ring will become soft and the spring pressure in the regulator will lift the regulator up and away from the valve in the cylinder so that the gas is shut off. In some cases, this locking ring will eventually fail and lose pressure on the valve.

Here is information from KosanGas, Cavagna group's official representative in Scandinavia:

«Last season, we received a number of enquiries from consumers who had problems connecting the gas to their gas grill or getting a stable gas supply. To rule out the possibility that the problems stemmed from gas cylinder valves, we conducted an independent investigation (by DIS) in 2015. The investigation concluded that the problems were not caused by the valves - but by the regulators. Since then, our manufacturer has improved their product. The new regulators are reinforced and meet the latest 2016 standards. We therefore encourage consumers who experience problems connecting a regulator to contact the retailer where the regulator was purchased and have it exchanged for a new, labeled 41.15 (production date) or later. It is still important to emphasize that you should never experiment with alternative solutions when it comes to gas grills and regulators. Always make sure that the regulator is fitted correctly.»
